Two posts in one day? Wow, how lucky are you! I wanted to add in another post because I forgot that it's Pedigree's BlogPaws "Write a Post, Help a Dog" time! For every post mentioning Pedigree's commitment to adoption and helping shelter dogs find loving homes, Pedigree will donate one 17-lb bag of dog food to a shelter! How cool is that?

Sad news
Dallas and her yet-to-be-named son
Sadly, Dallas's second pup, a little girl, was stillborn. We are all very sad about it. Dallas is doing well and is back with her son, taking excellent care of him.
I'm sorry you didn't get to spend time with us, little girl! You're part of the Legacy family anyway!
Pupdate: Dallas decided to name her son Austin, after a fellow city in Texas. Austin Boxer Rescue has helped LBR a whole bunch with saving dogs in our area, so she thought it was a fitting tribute! She has named her daughter Miss Ellie, after the matriarch of the Ewing family on the Dallas tv show. Godspeed, Miss Ellie!
Friday Dog of the Day: Winston
It's Friday, and that means it's time to talk to you about another one of the totally pawsome dogs available for adoption from Legacy Boxer Rescue! Today I'm going to talk to you about a super smart, handsome, and all around amazing guy named Winston!
Winston is a 7-year-old white boxer boy looking for the pawfect family to call his own. He had a family once before, but they decided they didn't want him and left him to fend for himself. Luckily he ended up with LBR! He's a very happy, go-with-the-flow kind of guy, so he settled in quickly and started looking for his furever home.
Remember how I said he's super-smart? Look at that sit-shake! Such form, such focus. I'm in awe. He also knows how to only potty outside, since he's a distinguished gentleman already, and he's great in his crate! He does well with kiddos -- his whole face lights up when he sees them -- but since he's a big guy who likes to romp, he'd do best without very little kids he might knock down. But he loves to play with toys and is a champion fetcher, so some older kiddos he could chase around the backyard would be just pawfect for him!
Winston is also great with other dogs! He's always lived with other dogs, both in his foster home and before, so he knows how to be part of a pack. He'd do okay as an only dog as long as you have time to spoil him lots, but he'd love a brother or sister to be silly with!
Winston is just the total package! I know he'll find a grreat home soon. If you think it should be with you, maybe you should check out his bio page on our website! You can learn all about him there, then fill out your application and bring a little Winston into your life.

Puppy Update
Dallas's baby boy, isn't he gorgeous?! He's taking a little trip with his momma to the V-E-T to help his little brother or sister into the world. Dallas is still doing okay, but labor wasn't progressing at all so Auntie Sharon decided she needed to be checked out. The V-E-T gave her some medicine to help induce labor, and they're going to x-ray her to see how many pups are left. Please keep her in your thoughts!
Update: There's just one pup left! The V-E-T says Dallas isn't in any distress and the pup is fine, just comfy where he is! He gave her some medicine to help with labor. If the pup isn't born overnight, they'll have to do a C-section in the morning. PUSH, Dallas!
It's going to be so funny -- these pups are twins, but they'll have different birthdays! BOL!
Amazing Science!
We had an amazing treat today when two students from St John's School, (A Catholic Academy) entertained us with their amazing science show.
They showed us how to make mist, toothpaste for an elephant and even created explosions! It was wonderful!
The students will be travelling to Peru to work at the Diocesan Mission and performed their show to raise funds for the trip.
Well done girls and good luck in Peru!

Puppies are HERE!!!
Dallas is pushing! Keep checking back, I'll share more news as I have it!
10:43am : We have a puppy! A healthy baby boy. Yay, Dallas!
11:28am: We got our first picture! This is Dallas's first puppy, a boy. There should be at least one more, based on the X-Rays. Momma and I are pushing to name him "J.R.", but the foster home hasn't announced it yet.
Update 4:42pm: I'm sure glad I'm a BOY and can't go through labor. Wowzers! Miss Dallas is still doing fine. Apparently labor can last a long time, and the Puppy Watchers who've helped lots of LBR dogs through their deliveries aren't worried at all. Dallas isn't in any distress and has been nursing little J.R., though she's still in labor. If she looks like she's in any distress, she'll go to the V-E-T for some help. I'm keeping my paws crossed for her!

4th of July Dessert
It is hard to believe that the 4th of July is right around the corner! Here in Atlanta folks are prepping for the Peachtree Road Race - I however am not participating, 60,000 people the hot streets of Atlanta? Thank you but no thank you! I've found that I enjoy destination races so much more than running here in Atlanta. I consider this my training ground but prefer to go sightseeing when I run a race!
I do however, have many friends who are participating in the race and of course, after the race is over and the heat starts to climb, there will be barbeque's a plenty to celebrate the 4th of July. In an effort to not derail my personal commitment to eating healthy and perhaps to help coerce others to stay on track I decided to make a 4th of July themed dessert (or snack) that is healthy. Last year I made one that incorporated whipped cream (Cool Whip which only has 15 calories per serving) but this year I was inspired by a photo I saw on facebook to make a flag that is made completely from fruit.
It is so easy and quick! I was able to assemble it in less than fifteen minutes. Of course, depending on the number of people you expect at your gathering you may have to make it bigger but certainly this sweet treat will be a hit!
Fruit Flag
Ingredients:
Wooden Skewers
Bananas
Strawberries
Blueberries
Method:
Wash blueberries and strawberries
Cut bananas into 1/2 inch slices.
Half strawberries.
Skewer banana slice, strawberry half and five blueberries for the first five skewers.
For the rest of the flag, alternate banana and strawberry.
Assemble flag on a pretty platter.
You are done!
I hope you try out this recipe for the 4th of July or any event when you are feeling patriotic. Olympics anyone????
Disclosure: I am a Walmart Mom, I have been compensated for sharing my 4th of July idea with you and all of the ingredients were purchased and provided for me by Walmart. All opinions are my own.
Walmart Locally Grown
Look what caught my eye during my visit to a Walmart in my area! Locally grown produce! Last year I talked about Walmart and the commitment to locally grown and this year Walmart plans to double the efforts of 2011. Utilizing locally grown produce supports local growers and helps with sustainability by cutting down on transportation of items which effects the carbon footprint.
This week at my store cherries and watermelon are being highlighted.
Clearly the watermelon are a big hit! This bin is almost empty. Since watermelon is a favorite in my household I decided to purchase on and just when I was ready to wrap my lips around a piece....
My son asked for some and of course I could not deny him. That slice of watermelon is nearly as big as my son's head but believe me, that did not deter him from eating it. As a matter of fact.........
He devoured the entire piece! This watermelon is juicy and sweet. The perfect summer treat that I personally am more than happy to indulge in especially since it is locally grown! Check out your Walmart to see the locally grown produce at great prices!
Disclosure: I am a Walmart mom and am compensated for spreading the word about locally grown produce and as usual all of my opinions are my own.
A Load of Hot Air!
Today we were visited by talented musicians from Woodham and Greenfield schools. They came to perform for us and to tell us about their woodwind and brass instruments.
They were joined by our very own Katie and Sean when they played famous television theme tunes. Mr Boyd, the music teacher was great fun and explained to us how brass instruments work in a very entertaining way. We all feel inspired by the visit and hopefully many more pupils will now try music lessons.
Olympic Fever Hits St Mary's!
This is our Olympic week in school.
It got off to a wonderful start with the visit of John, an Olympic Torch Bearer. He was truly inspirational and was nominated for his 30 years service in the Fire Brigade and for his remarkable charity work. He told us lots of facts about the torch and how he felt to be part of this amazing relay.
Thank you John and well done!
Later in the day we had our whole school sports day. Pictures to follow...!

Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary
Last week we celebrated the feast day of the patron saint of our school.
Fr Campion joined us for Mass and lots of our friends and family came to celebrate with us.
Unfortunately, due to the bad weather, we had to cancel our picnic and other outdoor activities but we had a lovely day nevertheless.
Thank you to everyone who joined us.

Lighting the Fire!
Just days after the Olympic torch travelled through our town, the schools in the Sedgefield Area Schools Sports Partnership held their own magnificent opening ceremony in the towns Xcel Centre.
Children from our Y6 carried the flag of the United Arab Emirates, (our "adopted" country,) in the parade of flags.
Later in the evening, our Y5 children entertained 1,000 spectators with their Olympic dance.
Well done to all our ambassadors. You truly displayed Olympic qualities!

Whatever your secret is, I want to see it! Send me pictures (no videos!) of you playing Keep Away with your humans, your siblings, your furiends -- anybody! Be creative, and have fun!
LBR foster Pink sez, "You'll never get me up here!"
And here's a message from the Blogville Olympics Committee:
THE OLYMPIC Committe MUST INSIST that All ATHLETES be ENTERED by Midnight July 18th. in order for the athlete to be SCREENED fur Bugs. The Peep Athletes have to be Screened fur DRUGS... butt WE of Blogville are above that! However, we gotta be sure that no Fleas get in... Complain to FRANKIE if you don't like the deadline.
PeeS: My good buddy Garth Riley is hosting a silly photo contest! Man, I am ALL over that one. I'm combing through my photos to see which one I want to enter. Obviously first place is all sewn up, but if the rest of you want to enter for second place, go for it!
Entente Cordiale au St Mary's!
Our Year 6 had a wonderful time entertaining our guests from France.
The children write:
On the first day the children got to know each other in a series of activities which included: football, dodgeball and they even enjoyed a trip to St.Oswalds Park, where they interacted with each other and learned to communicate with people from a different country!
The next day the pupils went on a trip to the Forbidden Corner. They started the day by getting lost in the bus which made the English children worried for the French children’s

well-being, but when they turned up there was a huge sigh of relief.
When they finally got into the garden, the children split up and revelled in the different tasks they faced on their endeavour to find their way out. The vast majority of the students favoured the stepping stones, where they all got soaked to the skin!
“I thought that the Forbidden Corner was great fun and I would really like to go there again!” Said Year 6 pupil Sean Brown. Matthew Bright felt that it was the best school trip ever and to add to that the French children were there to share the experience.
Overall, everybody thought that this was a brilliant day out and that they would definitely go there again.
On the final day, the children each created an impressive 3-Dimensional fantasy garden, which was based on the Forbidden Corner. The art work was followed by a carousel of activities, these were: Dodgeball (French and English Version), playing board games and making cards.
Then to round off the amazing experience St.Mary’s gave the French school a gift basket filled with English foods, and in return, the French school gave a gift basket filled with French foods.
Everybody loved the company of the French students and intend to keep in touch with each other, while the French headmistress said that the trip was ‘formidable!’ and is hoping to return next year.
Puppies! ...But not those, sorry!
Miss Dallas is still holding out on us, but look at these cuties! Someone surrendered six 6-month-old puppies to LBR today. There's three boys and three girls, and they're super adorable. Here they are on Auntie Sharon's lawn, getting their shots and being doled out to their foster homes. Welcome to the LBR family, puppies!
Let's Hear it for the Red, White and Blue!
The Olympics are fast approaching and for me the the excitement is mounting. Last night I watched the U.S. track and field trials and was absolutely blown away by the athleticism and showmanship demonstrated by the elite athletes. My pride in the red, white and blue increases daily. Although I never had aspirations to be an Olympian, I happily shared what the flag means to me on Tide's My Story, My Flag on facebook. Here is the story of Lopez Lomong, a refugee from Sudan who became an American and an Olympian.
Share your story on facebook and it may be woven in the flag that will be unveiled at Bryant Park in NYC on July 3rd. What does the Red, White and Blue mean to you?
Disclosure: I am a Tide Olympic Blogger and have been compensated for this post and as usual all opinions are my own and my pride is true!

Friday Dog of the Day: Contessa
I'm really late with my post today, sorry! Momma forgot to set it for the automatic timer thingy. Siiiiiigh. Good help is so hard to find!
It's Friday, guys and gals, so that means it's time for another DOG OF THE DAY! Fridays are when I feature one of the totally pawsome dogs looking for their furever homes with Legacy Boxer Rescue. This week's dog is the lovely Contessa.
Contessa is a beeYOUtiful three-year-old boxer girl. Just look at those beautiful eyes of hers! Yup, that's a girl with a lot of love to give, all right. I can see it.
Contessa gets along grreat with other dogs. She likes to play and to snuggle. She can be a little shy at first, but once she opens up she's the best dog in the world! (After yours truly, natch.) She's house-broken and crate-trained too. How can you get any better than a sweet princess like this?
Contessa thinks that summer is fun, but it would be even MORE fun if she had a furever family of her very own to share it with. If you're after some summer lovin', she says she's all yours! Head on over to LBR's website and check out her bio page. Then fill out an application and bring home a Contessa of your very own!

Disney Social Media Moms and 18 summers
My son doing worksheets reviewing things he learned in school year.
The words to describe my experience at the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration include: inspiring, fun and educational. At this wonderful "celebration" I along with approximately 200 other bloggers were treated to the wonderful world of Disney, attended great informational sessions, and were given the opportunity to explore Disney.
One of the most inspirational sessions was the one with Amy Foster, a Disney executive. She spoke about savoring the Magical Moments we have with our families in our daily lives. As a photo of her children was displayed on the large screen she spoke of her revelation that "We have 18 summers" with our children. 18 summers of smiles, fun in the sun, review of school work (don't want to let all the hard work go to waste), perhaps trips to Disney and other summer vacation destinations.
It struck a cord with my because this is my fifth summer with my son. It is hard to believe that time has gone by so quickly and my son has grown so much. In what seems to be a blink of the eye my son will be off to kindergarten this fall and I know I will blink and he will be going to college or even (gasp) to college!
I have plans to enjoy the moments I have with my son this summer and every summer to come. His smile, kisses and hugs are abundant now and I want to take full advantage. I know that when he is a teen, these things may be hard to come by.
I have 13 more summers with my son and intend to make them Magical!
Disney's BRAVE!
Disney Pixar's BRAVE is in theaters today and earlier this week I was lucky enough to be invited to a preview of the film. As I mentioned last week, I have been anxiously awaiting this film. The first time I saw the trailer a few months ago, it was evident to me that I needed to see this film. Disney's newest Princess Merida is a role model not only for young girls but for me and I'm sure many adults.
BRAVE is the story of Merida, a Princess from the Highlands of Scotland. At an early age, her mother was focused on imparting all of the knowledge a young royal "should" have - proper manners, history, etc. It is very clear early on that Merida is more of a rough and tumble girl more interested in learning combat skills - specifically archery. Her father the King fully supports his daughter's passion and rewards her with the gift of a bow.
When Merida is a teenager, her mother is hastily preparing her for betrothal and an unknowing Merida continues to live for the days when she can jump on her horse, let her hair fly free and gallop away to the forest to practice her archery skills and have adventures. One evening when she returns from a jaunt, her mother is reading correspondence and announces that three suitors will be visiting to win Merida's hand in marriage.
Merida is livid and determinately devises a scheme to get out of it, once she learns that ultimately she chooses how the young men will compete for her she chooses archery and vies for her own hand in marriage! The story that follows is filled with action and adventure as Merida works to change her destiny.
Merida is a strong protagonist and is officially my favorite Disney Princess. I believe the lesson that "We are in charge of our own Destiny" is one boys and girls, young and old can live by. Although I am frequently inspired by Disney films, BRAVE is my new favorite and one that I encourage all parents with little girls especially, to take their children to see.
I am in charge of my destiny and BRAVE was a wonderful reminder for me.
Disclosure: I attended a complimentary preview of Disney Pixar's BRAVE but as usual, all opinions are my own.
