Καλώς ήρθατε Κωνσταντίνα!

Our second half of the autumn term has got off to a busy start.
We welcomed the arrival on Constantina, now fondly known as "Tina," to our school. Tina joins us as an assistant from Cyprus and will be with us until July.

During her stay she will teach our pu;pils some of the cu;lture of Cyprus and will help us all to learn some Greek phrases.
Ελπίζουμε ότι θα είναι πολύ χαρούμενος στην Κωνσταντίνα σχολείο μας!

Some of our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils have been learning the skills of safe cycling through the Bikeability scheme. At Level 1 training, the young people were required to learn to control and master their bikes. The training took place on the playground, an environment away from cars or traffic. The children gained basic cycle control skills including starting and pedalling; stopping; manoeuvring; signalling and using gears.
Some of our children continued to Level 2 training and can now safely:
  • Start and finish a journey by road, including passing parked or slower moving vehicles
  • Be aware of everything around them and signal their intentions to other road users when someone needs to know what they are doing
  • Position themselves properly on the road and pass side roads
  • Use junctions including turning left and right into major and minor roads
  • Decide whether a cycle lane will help with a journey
  • Use the Highway Code, particularly when it comes to understanding road signs

  • Well done to all those who took part and thank you to the team of instructors who patiently trained over 20 of our pupils, despite very cold weather!

Next week sees an important opportunity for our Year 6 pupils as they embark on their residential trip to Kingswood in Hexham. Whilst there the children will have the opportunity to push the boundaries of their comfort zone!

Have lots of fun and get very muddy! Good luck Mrs Mason, Mrs Minns and Tina; we'll have the kettle on for when you get back!!
