Project Eco Car!

Last week, four of our Year 5 pupils, Charlotte, Hannah, Matthew and Cameron represented our school on a visit to Nissan Car Factory in Washington.

Our project was to design and build two solar-powered, model cars, We then pitched our cars in competition with those made by children from over thirty other schools in the region.

We weren't too hopeful that our first car would be successful in the race, but a last minute change resulted in us having a speed machine which the children steered along the race track, securing a semi-final place in style. Sadly, our success was short-lived and we narrowly missed out on a final place.

Shortly afterwards we were judged in the design competition. Our car had an Olympic theme with a replica Olympic torch being towed by our car. Although our design was commended, we did not reach the final but were very proud of our achievements.

The rest of the day was spent finding out about renewable energy and we took part in a number of workshops. We now are very eco-minded and will "bust" anyone needlessly wasting electrical energy!!
