Summer is halfway over and students are beginning to think about going back to school. With the midway point of summer comes the beginning of back-to-school shopping. Stores are stocking up on sweaters and jeans, and it’s time to prepare for fall on Boylston Street. The tough part is figuring out what to buy. Well, Atlas is here to help. Here's a trend forecast for the fall based on the spring runway shows. These are the key pieces expected to be in stores and all over the Emerson campus by September.
a flapper inspired dress by Marchesa
1920’s Flair
Drop waists and feathers were already making a comeback, but as the premier of The Great Gatsbystarring Leonardo DiCaprio approaches, 1920s inspired styles are becoming increasingly popular. Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch, and Ralph Lauren, among others, featured dresses inspired by the roaring 20s on the spring runways. Feathers, sequins, and all-around glamour are to be expected this fall. So grab that flapper-style dress and don’t be afraid to add some feathers.
bold, geometric prints by J. Mendel
Bold, Geometric Prints
While color blocking was big in the spring, it takes on a new form for fall. Big, graphic stripes in black and white, and rich colors will be replacing the neon craze of last season. Bold, geometric lines and big blocks of deep colors cropped up at the shows of Narcisco Rodriguez, Carolina Herrera, J. Mendel, and Tommy Hilfiger. Royal blue, saffron yellow, and black and white were the featured colors. Pick up a statement dress or coat in a bold, geometric pattern to easily pull off this trend.
floral separates by Jason Wu
Statement Floral
Although floral is traditionally more of a spring pattern, the girly print is taking on a new life this fall. Florals in bright, bold colors were shown on the runways in statement dresses, breezy seperates, and even sportswear. Altuzarra, Alexander Wang, Rodarte, and Prabal Gurung championed the floral for fall. Wearing a psychedelic floral dress or two bold floral separates together will certainly make you stand out in the crowd, in the best way possible.
These three big trends are a good starting point for building a fierce back-to-Boston wardrobe. No one does style like Emerson and now you can be on top of the fall trends and ready to strut your stuff down Boylston.
