As much as I adore the online community and my virtual friends, my friends in real life are just as important to me. Of course there is overlap, many of the people that have become my close friends over the last two years I initially met through blogging and at conferences and other events we met in real life but seemingly knew each other forever.
I do have a community of friends that are not as deeply immersed in the online world as I am. For the most part these friends are on facebook so they keep up with me that way but there is a big difference between seeing photos of a 50 pound lighter me and actually seeing me in person. Believe it or not, one of my friends is not on facebook and says she will never join so connecting with her means we have to call each other or make arrangements to meet. Needless to say that doesn’t happen very often.
So, I was thrilled to be able to host a girl’s night in this Friday and have some of my favorite people come out. I saw friends from college, from Mocha Moms and from my neighborhood. One of my friends I hadn’t seen in almost ten years (but facebook does keep us up to date on what is going on with each other).
I called the evening Cocktails, Conversations and Cupcakes. We enough of all three components to last the entire weekend! The pre-mixed cocktails from TGIF were a big hit, I especially liked the mudslide and there were enough varieties of drinks that everyone found a favorite. The berry mojito was also a big hit.
The cupcakes for the evening were donated by the Highland Bakery and were simply delicious! My favorite was the peanut butter high hat, imagine a Reese’s peanut butter cup on a cupcake.
And this bakery mills it’s own flour so you can’t go wrong, every single cupcake is delicious! Of course, we had mini-cupcakes, we could sample more than one and not feel guilty!
In addition to having a great night with friends, it was a party with a purpose and my guests were encouraged to contribute to my fundraising effort for the The Leukemia Lymphoma Society! Again, success! Thank you to all of the lovely ladies that were able to make it out on Friday. All of us said we must do it again and one of my friends suggested we rotate it monthly from house to house!
With busy and hectic lives sometimes it is necessary to stop and get back to enjoying the basics, this girl’s night in was one of those moments that I hope to repeat in the near future! A big thank you to Diago/T.G.I.F for sponsoring the event!
