You see this picture? I am happy as a clam about finishing my first 5K race in years (3.1 miles). This photo was taken less than a month ago and last week I ran another 5K with the ladies of Race and Relax (a post is forthcoming). I'm very close to meeting my weight loss goal and it is time for me to renew my focus - I've been inspired by the women of Team Shrinking Jeans, last Sunday they ran the San Diego Half Marathon with Team in Training and I've also been inspired by my friend Amu who convinced me to run the Reggae Half-Marathon in Jamaica this December.
I've taken my time thinking about the half -Marathon goal and decided that I am not only going to run for myself but I want to make a difference by raising money for a cause I support - the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. Like the ladies of Shrinking Jeans, I will be joining Team in Training here in Georgia and raising funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma foundation. I have decided to run the Nike Women's Half-Marathon in San Francisco on October 17th, 2010.
Like my weight loss journey, I'm announcing this publicly for accountability and also to show women like me that you can complete any goal you put your mind to. I am running in honor of my "Hero", Ja'Naya.
She is the daughter of my good friend Jennae and is defeating leukemia.
Ja'Naya has been a trooper all during her treatment and has the best attitude ever. I am running for her, in the hope that one day there will be a cure and no other children will have to deal with leukemia. I am also running in memory of my family members who fought a good fight against this disease.
At this point, I am more afraid of my fundraising goal of $4000 than I am of the 13 miles I've committed to run. This is where I ask for your help- will you please support my efforts and make a donation in any amount? CLICK HERE TO DONATE and remember your donation is 100% tax-deductible.
I will be updating my progress during my training and hopefully will recruit a few more people to run with me in October too. Thank you for all of your support!
