My girlfriend Talibah and I have been friends for over twenty years. We met in college freshman year and became fast friends. Our friendship has passed the test of time and although we spent many years living in different cities and barely kept up with each other's lives, when I moved to Atlanta I looked for her. Initially with a little bit of apprehension because so many years had gone by but we chatted several times by email and skype, had discussions about things that transpired years ago and after tears, laughs and smiles realized that as women our friendship was even stronger than it was when we were mere children (although when we were in college we just KNEW we were grown).
Talibah and I have coached each other - she looks to me for advice about social media and I look to her for advice on just about everything. She knows many of my most personal feelings, desires and fears and I am so honored to call her a friend and have her in my corner. We live about an hour away from each other so we get together infrequently but usually chat weekly on skype so we see each other's faces. We've been long past due a in person get together so I invited her to break bread with me to catch up in real life.
We met at Einstein's Bagels and discussed everything from healthy food choices to directions for our businesses and it was amazing. Although the time went by too quickly (having my toddler who is full of energy along kept our meeting brief) it was so much fun spending time with my sister friend. Talibah, we really need to plan at least a monthly meeting. Hugs and kisses are not quite the same when they are virtual! My sisterfriend, Talibah - I love you and can't wait to see you again.
